COCONUT GRATER

(male), KELANTAN, circa 19 century.

This coconut grater (male) is made from halban wood (vitex pinnata) using bakawali and dragon flower motifs. The manufacturing technique is tebuk timbul silat. This carving and shape are suitable for women's use. While, another form, which is more modest is designed for the use of men so that they can help work in the kitchen.
