Artconomics: 8th Solo Art by Ali Nurazmal

“Artconomics: 8th Solo Art Show by Ali Nurazmal” was inspired by the intellectual exposition of Yang Berhormat Mulia Senator Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz when he wrote about the potential of art in economy during his tenure as the Minister of Finance in the year 2021. In the article, Ali Nurazmal was among the prominent artists cited by YBM Senator Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Zafrul.

Does art have anything to do with the economy? How can our economy benefit through art? Is art useful in the economy? These are some provocative questions which transcend the stereotype that has enfeebled the mind of many today; and serves to pre-frame the Artconomics exhibition.

Artconomics is not merely ‘another exhibition’, rather it is a visionary platform that seeks to establish art as a part and parcel of the economic landscape and intellectually heightens the awareness of our society, especially the new generation, to consider the critical role of art in its relation to economy. In order to disseminate this objective, Artconomics presents Ali Nurazmal Yusoff’s 8th Solo Art Show as the basis of the exhibition. The exhibition selects and displays 42 pieces of Ali’s best artworks since 1990s hitherto to beautifully capture the reciprocal relation of economy in the art scene and vice versa on a micro and macro level. Apart from guided tour provided by curators, the exhibition also held an academic forum titled “Relevance between Art & Economy” which delivers the content to participants in an interactive manner.

In summary, the exhibition aims to break-through the stereotype and offer experience concerning the interweaving, dynamic and immediate relation between art and economy. Apart from the aesthetic appreciation, the artworks are specifically curated to express a certain meaning, narrative and lesson for one to experience and interpret as one would understand that within subjective interpretation lies objectivity. Art is a manifestation of expression and creation; and intellectual creation adds value. This perspective on art is often overlooked nowadays. In essence, through the artist’s art journey, Artconomics seeks to provoke our thoughts to re-discover the potential, intuitive and foundational relation between art and economy
